A spotlight on young performers

An evening of dance & musical theatre, featuring the best of young talent.

What is Take the Stage?

Take the Stage offers dance and performing arts schools the opportunity to showcase their students in some of the country's most prestigious theatres. Many of the largest theatrical venues in the UK are no longer accessible to young talent due to the busy professional demand for these spaces and the commercial costs associated with their hire; Take the Stage makes these theatres accessible again.

Why should we take part?

Take the Stage encourages the growth of young performers, in confidence, ability, team work and performance skills. Offering your school a showcase to work towards, Take the Stage can bring a new energy, focus and excitement to your classes. We take pride in producing highly professional productions, running our shows with extremely experienced technical teams, to ensure our productions meet only the highest standards. Take the Stage also takes away both the financial and organisational stress of producing your own show, you’re able to turn up and enjoy, without worrying about spreadsheets, costs and technicalities. Above all, our show days are sure to create unforgettable memories for performers, teachers and parents alike.

The Company

Take The Stage was created by actress and presenter Amy Burrows, with the aim to bridge the gap between young performers and otherwise inaccessible venues. The company was founded in 2016 with a hugely successful sell out launch show, giving over 300 young performers the chance to Take the Stage. Check out our video and photos to see what we're all about.

Each school is required to bring a minimum of 30 and a maximum of 35 students on show day.

Each school is allocated 10 minutes of performance time during the show, split across two numbers. This is a chance to showcase your school and could include any genre from tap to ballet, jazz, commercial contemporary or musical theatre.

If you would like to discuss things further or wish to go ahead and secure a space for your school in one of our upcoming shows, please do get in touch. We are contactable via the enquiry form below, phone or email and we’re also more than happy to arrange a good, old fashioned, face to face meeting! Although bookings have to be made by a school, if you are a young performer or parent looking to get your school involved, why not request an information pack to share with your teacher?

We currently work with schools all over Essex, with a number of performances at the prestigious, 1650 seater Cliffs Pavilion in Southend.

There is no financial outlay for principals and teachers. Each performer is required to pay a nominal production fee of £20, which includes a ‘Take the Stage’ t-shirt to be worn for the finale.

Every Take the Stage event closes with a grand finale, featuring all the schools and young performers from your performance day. Your group will have a session with our finale choreographer prior to the performance date and then again on show day. Our finales are spectacular; you can expect singing, dancing, confetti and the audience on their feet!

Our next production is at The Cliffs Pavilion in Southend on the 4th and 5th July 2020.

Absolutely! We are more than happy for your group to sing live and we will provide four radio microphones for any soloists, as well as float microphones to pick up ensemble vocals.

On a Take the Stage show day each school is allocated an individual slot to block through and run their numbers on stage. We understand how much work goes in to creating your routines and believe it’s really important for every group to have time familiarising themselves with the performance space.

Backstage space is limited so we ask that props and staging are kept to a minimum. Any props used are the responsibility of your group and must be set on stage by members of your team.

We use highly experienced sound and lighting designers whom you can discuss your specific requirements with on show day.

All ticket bookings go directly through the theatre’s box office. The box office have a list of all the schools involved in each production and every customer is asked which school they are associated with when making a booking.

Each performer is committed to selling a minimum of 3 tickets for the show. Every school is registered with the box office, so the venue are able to confirm each school meets their minimum ticket quota.

Testimonials

Miss Laura

Principal of Fusion Performers
“Fusion enjoyed every moment of it and all I have heard from parents is what a professional, fantastic show it was. A massive well done to you for creating something so creative and professional and for offering such a personal approach to every principal it was just lovely to be a part of. We have done West End shows for years and this was by far the most professional. It was so well organised and I loved the voice overs and the fact all were part of a finale also. I think you should take your business venture to the West End, as it hands down is worthy and better than most others.”

Teacher

Bailar Dance
“I just wanted to say a MASSIVE thank you from all of us for such a wonderful day yesterday. The children had a fabulous time!! We had fantastic feedback from our parents who thought the whole show was great. Drop us an email next year or any other events you organise as we'd love to be a part if we can!!”

Hannah Mitchell

Take the Stage cast member
“I am so grateful for being a part of a wonderful, fantastic night, it was a joy to be in. It was truly one of the the best nights ever. Hope to see you again next year.”

Abi Leonard

Principal of Leonard Dance Academy
“I am thrilled that my school were asked to take part in 'Take the Stage’, its a fab opportunity for the students to perform in a lovely theatre, on a 'real' stage, to all their friends and family. It’s not only a brilliant performance opportunity, that I'm sure the students will remember forever, it is also a time where students will build friendships and make some amazing memories. It’s been a brilliant focus for us this term and I can say that both students and staff are working hard for the up and coming event...each week the excitement is building..... Bring on the 2nd July!!!!!”

Miss Laura

Principal of Fusion Performers
"We are so excited to perform with Take the Stage this July. As a school we are always seeking performance opportunities for our students and normally we have to go to London for this, so it is amazing to finally see a production company offering this opportunity locally - allowing more of our students to be part of it and their families to watch. We have always wanted to perform at the Cliffs Pavilion and are thrilled to also be able to showcase our Dance Company and Musical Theatre Company within the same show."

Vanda Morgan

Principal of Morgan Academy of Performing Arts
This was such a great experience for all my students! They so enjoyed the day and dancing at such a prestigious, premiere venue. The whole day was so well organised; a huge success for Amy and her team!

Jessica and Rachel Simmons

Principals of Sorelle London Academy
"We would like to firstly thank you with how organised and professional the whole day was the children just loved every minute. Secondly we would like to thank everyone back stage who helped with the whole day. Overall the kids absolutely loved it and so did we, you have a wonderful company and we wish you all the success in the future.”

Jo d’Unienville

Principal of Dance Steps Academy
"It was honestly one of the most organised events I have ever done. Nothing had been forgotten, everything ran like clockwork and it was just an utter breath of fresh air as a principal to be part of something that ran just the way I would do something. Even from when we first signed up last year the running of everything has been seamless. I cannot congratulate you enough and managing something of this size takes a lot of grit, patience and dedication. Take The Stage creates such a brilliant opportunity for students to perform on what is now a rare stage to step on - something even I haven’t ever had the privilege of! The students have loved every second of it today and have been just beaming from the buzz of being able to perform!! So thank you so much for creating this platform and executing it so well. From our point of view and on a professional point of view today was everything I had expected and more."

Joanne Bond

Principal of Joanne Bond School of Classical Ballet
"Thank you so much Amy for allowing us to be a part of 'Take the stage'. All the students enjoyed the experience, it was such a well run event. You whole team were so helpful and professional."

Josephine Parsad

Principal of JADA Theatre School
"It really is a wonderful thing you have created and in Southend. It made me really proud to be and to grow home grown talent and have them be on that stage! I know how much this sort of thing takes to organise and I have to say well done all round and to the whole team, who clearly respect you and your brand. You did a great job and it was seamless really!"

Lorraine Field

Principal of Wiggles Dance Studios
"Thank you so much for all your hard work, your team were amazing! We had such a fun day, the kids loved it, look froward to next year!"

Lauren McCarthy

Resident Teacher at Star Studios of Performing Arts
"We would like to say a massive thank you for giving our school the amazing opportunity to perform at Take The Stage. We had a brilliant day and all of our students thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The whole day ran so smoothly and it was organised so well that we would like to sign up for next year if possible please! "
